If you look close you can see where stitching was removed to make the "N" an "I",
Must have been when we joined with our Canadian brothers and sisters and went from the N.B.E.W. National Brotherhood of Electrical Workers to the I.B.E.W. International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
The founding members of Local #73 joined together with the understanding that the individual couldn't do it alone. They knew they had to work together for the individual to have enough strength and a loud enough voice to make the changes that were needed to create a better workplace. To create safer working conditions, training, better wages and to be treated with respect and dignity. They believed in the idea that if there were enough of them working together with common interests they could acheive their goals. They knew that the opportunity to create a better life for all electrical workers would only be possible by joining together in a union and upholding their "Oath of membership" and striving to acheive the goals/"Objects of the IBEW".
Because of Labor's efforts and the hard work of Unions over the last century there have been several rules and laws enacted to create a better workplace and better working conditions for all workers. With all of the gains workers have seen there are still forces fighting against the efforts of Working Families to acheive a better way of life. The opportunity to create a better life for working families and create strong vibrant communities still exists in the idea that if there are enough of us working together with common interests we can acheive our goals. The need for workers to join together in unions is just as important today as it ever was, especially with our growing problem of income inequality.
