This online workshop explores opportunities for engagement and advancement on the job, within your local union, and throughout the various structures of the labor movement, including the North American Building Trades Unions (NABTU) and the provincial, state, and local labor bodies in the U.S. and Canada.

Digital Activism in the Age of COVID-19

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10th, 11am-1pm EST

A pandemic may bring new and additional challenges, but it doesn’t change the fact that we still need to organize! Zoom has become the “new normal” for many, but how are you using Zoom and other digital tools creatively to keep up with communication? This online workshop explores how to boost traditional organizing skills in the digital arena and how to facilitate online conversations to uplift others while working through your agenda effectively.

Starting an IBEW Women’s Committee at Your Local Union

The first step is committing to do it!  Join this online workshop to learn how to start a committee and gain some valuable insight on what it takes to get movement on the ground. Members of the IBEW International Women’s Advisory Committee will present the new Guide to Women’s Committees and discuss the various strategies to make a lasting impact for women of your local union.

Keep up the Momentum! Stronger Organizing for Impact

So, you’ve done it – your local union has an established women’s committee. You’ve experienced the growing pains, overcome obstacles, grown into your space, and assisted the local in various activities and operations. Now, how do you continue to engage? Have you considered succession planning? What are some concrete steps for successful mentorship and sponsorship to keep the leadership pipeline flowing? Members of the IBEW International Women’s Advisory Committee will reflect on advanced tactics for recruitment, renewal, and avoiding burnout.

Navigating Difficult Conversations on the Worksite

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24th 11am EST

It happens. Not all interactions with co-workers are pleasant, joyful, and full of respect. Handling these situations can test your resolve and your patience. Looking for some snappy comebacks? Need techniques to de-escalate a situation? Have you ever witnessed tension on the jobsite, and you wished you had another tool in your belt to deal with it? Join this online workshop to learn about meaningful ways to embody cultural change and how best to deal with rude or difficult people.

Discrimination and Harassment: A Legal Review
