Great Job!.......to everyone who worked so hard to to make the Quality-Jobs Ordinance a reality. Thanks for all your work for the last year or so moving this forward and filling the City Council chambers last night to testify and support this initiative.
The Spokane Alliance "Jobs-Team" made up of members of the Building Trades, Educators, Pastors and several other volunteer members working for the common good of our community saw their hard work pay off last night when the City Council passed the Quality-Jobs Ordinances that will create:
- A $350K threshold for all public works projects to phase in a 15% apprenticeship utilization while creating a grant fund for Community Empowerment Zones for poor performers who do not meet the criteria and fail to obtain a waiver.
- A funding mechanism to assess the economic benefit of low bid materials over $20K compared to materials purchased locally.
- A way to award points to local contractors with a history of good performance.
This means jobs for our members, increased apprenticeship opportunities for folks in our community and an investment in workers in Spokane.
